1) Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Concerned About Quality of Patient Care Under Proposed Regulations

On December 15th 2012 the Canadian Government released the proposed Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR).  The proposed MMPR can be found here: http://www.gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2012/2012-12-15/html/reg4-eng.html

2) List of Dispensaries Currently “In Certification Process”

As of January 1 2013, there are 3 dispensaries participating in the CAMCD Certification Program: the BC Compassion Club Society (Vancouver), MedCannAccess (Toronto), and the Medical Cannabis Access Society (Montreal).

3) CAMCD announces new Chief Operating Officer

CAMCD is pleased to announce that Erin Prosk is the new Chief Operating Officer of the Canadian Association of Medical Cannabis Dispensaries.  Ms. Prosk brings a diverse skillset and medical cannabis industry experience to CAMCD.  Ms. Prosk will be a large benefit to the team at CAMCD in what will be a pivotal year for medical cannabis dispensaries and the implementation of the CAMCD Certification Program. 

 

4) Five BC Cannabis Policy Reform Advocates Awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal

Five prominent cannabis policy reform advocates received the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal on January 24th.  They were nominated by Senator Pierre Claude Nolin for their dedication to cannabis social justice and medical access for Canadians living with critical and chronic illness.  Senator Nolin was the chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Illegal Drugs, which issued a report recommending cannabis be regulated and the government work with the medical cannabis dispensaries.  The medal is being awarded this year to 60, 000 Canadians to honour significant contributions and achievements.  The recipients include two prominent lawyers John Conroy and Kirk Tousaw, as well as all members of the CAMCD advisory board: Hilary Black, Rielle Capler, and Philippe Lucas.

 

5) Americans for Safe Access National Medical Cannabis Unity Conference

Representatives from CAMCD will be attending the upcoming Americans for Safe Access Conference February 22-24 in Washington, DC.  For more information about the conference and details about how to register, visit the Americans for Safe Access website:

6) R vs. Mernagh Ontario Court of Appeal Decision

Ontario’s Court of Appeal released its 60 page decision February 1st in the case of R vs. Mernagh.  The decision can be reviewed here:
